We are sorry to inform the passing of our dear friend, Doug Flett. Doug has been a faithful servant, strong leader, man of integrity, beloved teacher and friend to St. Peter for over 45 years. We mourn together as a family.
Douglas Edward Flett, age 70, of Schaumburg. Beloved husband of Lori Jean Flett, nee Visser for over 41 years. Devoted father of Tamara (Nathaniel) Rende, Scott Flett and Tara Flett. Loving grandfather of Samantha and Evan. Cherished son of the late George and Ruth Flett. Caring brother of Kathryn (Michael) Hutson, Paul Flett, Donald (Elizabeth) Flett and Mary Flett. Dear uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Doug was a minister of education at St. Peter Lutheran School for over 44 years and in his retirement continued to surround himself with students as a bus driver for the First Student Bus Company. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Visitation at St. Peter Lutheran Church & School, 202 East Schaumburg Rd., Schaumburg, IL on Thursday June 11, 2020 at 3:30pm. Outdoor memorial service to begin at 4:00pm. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, sit in family groups and appreciate social distancing giving others at least 6 feet of space.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Kirsch/Flett Scholarship, c/o St. Peter Lutheran School, 202 E. Schaumburg Road, Schaumburg, IL 60194.
In response to many requests, we will be posting Doug Flett's Funeral Service Video on our website. We know many friends and family live out of state plus the current circumstances are not allowing us to all come together in person. With that said, we will post the funeral service as soon as it is available at stpeterlcms.org/flett. To allow time for editing the funeral will be posted no later than Wednesday, June 17th. Below you will find a few links. You may download the funeral service bulletin to follow along, a link to view funeral service (when available), and a link to share images and videos (we will be compiling a video in his memory). You may also email images and photographs to photos@stpeterlcms.org.
KIRSCH/FLETT SCHOLARSHIP FUND
This fund was established January 13, 2007 for the children/parents of St. Peter Lutheran School by the faculty, staff, friends, and members of St. Peter to honor the 35th anniversaries in ministry of long time teachers Roger Kirsch and Doug Flett. The purpose of this fund is to minister to the St. Peter school families when they face sudden life changing circumstances that limit their ability to pay tuition (or any other fees) for their child/ren (i.e. death of a parent, loss of job, serious illness of parent/child). This fund is intended to help in the short-term. Recommendations for families needing help can be brought to the attention of the school administrative staff. Decisions for offering aid will be made by the school administration. To date this scholarship has provided in excess of $130,000 in tuition assistance.
